Debashis Doob: Intersubjective Filmmaker

Debashis Doob

Debashis Doob is an intersubjective filmmaker whose journey began in 2009, inspired by personal loss and a passion for existential themes. Growing up in Gazipur surrounded by art and music, he founded a filmmaking community and gained recognition with his short film Known. After graduating with a degree in agricultural engineering, he studied at the Bangladesh Cinema and Television Institute, where avant-garde cinema deeply influenced him. He created notable works such as The Ballad of a Geek and Niruddesh Jatra. Supported by a national grant, he produced the acclaimed children’s film Mukuler Jadur Ghora. Later, with an Erasmus+ scholarship, he completed a Master’s in Documentary Film Direction in Europe, pushing personal documentary boundaries with films like Moushumi and My mount Mir.age. In 2024, he directed Song of Silent Neighbors at the Interaction Student Film Camp and began an ongoing diary film project Displaced Diary of a Solitary Kala, celebrating a complex understanding of panoramic subjectivity. Debashis is committed to inclusive, mindful filmmaking and mentorship.
